The Lewis Chessmen, a collection of over six dozen 12th Century chess pieces, were discovered on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland in 1831.  They make for a perfect example of the types of game pieces that might be ported over to a Medieval Fantasy setting to show a game within a game for your tabletop roleplaying campaign.  Read more here!
